The maintenance facility at Wittenberge therefore developed a new, modular cab space in 1992. It consisted of a premade car body module of fiberglass parts and an end shape borrowed from the class 628 in which a DB standard design cab introduced on the class 111 was installed in the cab control car. There was now a roomier and more manageable cab space with a modern engineer's control desk that was equipped with computer-supported control for diesel and electric locomotives. It enabled both operation with the conventional shuttle train control and also the new time multiplex shuttle train control (ZWS). Here all that was needed was a simple change of the mode of operation. A conversion was no longer necessary. There was also now a side-selective door control since these cars were often used at the end of a bi-level shuttle train. These cab space modules were now installed until 1998 in large quantities including differences in the design of the cab control cars. The type Bnrbdzf 480.1 cars were originally converted for use in Hesse and only one type Bnrbdzf had a handicapped restroom and a built-in wheelchair lift. Several of these cab control cars then went to other depots such as Kiel, Stuttgart, or also to Muhldorf. With increasing regionalization and the use of modern powered rail cars, these cab control cars lost along with the modernized "Silberlingen" cars more importance in application and thus currently you can experience them only isolated as part of replacement, special, and leisure-time trains (such as the Bicycle Express).
